Dragon Tales
Sports Day 2016

Sports are good because they encourage a true democratic spirit; for in the athletic field the man must be judged not with reference to outside and accidental attributes, but to the combination of bodily vigor and moral quality which go to make up prowess. Theodore Roosevelt

Aiming to impart lessons on sportsman spirit and camaraderie to students, Junior B Section of The City School Darakhshan Campus, organized the Dragon Tales, Annual Sports Day 2016 on Saturday, March 05, 2016. The Honourable Chief Guest, Mr. Xu Zhijie Cultural Consul, from the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China, Ms. Nafisa Zanzibarwala, GM Academics SRO, Mr. Intesar Haider, Regional Sports Coordinator SRO and Major (R) Kamran Khan, Regional Security Manager SRO graced the event. The ceremony was auspicated with the recital of verses from the Holy Quran. The school choir sang the Pakistan’s National Anthem followed by the "March of the Volunteers", also formally known as the National Anthem of the People's Republic of China. Following the anthems were the TCS Anthem and Hamd. Ms. Ujala Mansoor, the Headmistress welcomed the audience and particularly thanked the members of the Chinese Consulate for their immense support and contribution in making the event possible.

The walk past of Class 5 students into the ground was led by the flag bearers of Pakistan, People’s Republic of China and The City School.  The oath was taken and the students solemnly pledged to uphold the spirit of true sportsmanship. The Chief Guest declared the Sports Day open which followed the arrival of the torch bearers and releasing of colourful balloons symbolizing the high-flying hopes of the students. The drill display presented by the students of Class 5 kept the spectators spellbound. The cheerleaders put up breathtaking and remarkable performances which were interwoven in between track events. The day was filled with exciting victories and near misses for all the houses. The comperes seamlessly reported and covered all events. The highlight of the Sports Day was the Dragon and Lion Dance depicting a long-standing tradition of good luck and mimicked the supposed sinuous and undulating movements of the river spirits. Tae Kwando display became a show stopper which included fire ring display, block breaking, jump front kicks, 360° kicks, wood breaking by punching etc. The Mothers’ race was an upbeat activity for parents. Finally, the teachers were also put to test and participated in the Teachers’ race. There was immense cheering on both these events by the students. The winning house was the Green House. A due vote of thanks was given by Ms. Nadia Jafarey, the Senior Mistress of the Section.

The Dragon Tales, Sports Day 2016 was indeed a show which contributed to the long-standing friendship between Pakistan and China.
