History Trivia

History Trivia was held on Friday, November 16, 2018. It was a section based contest where students of Class 8 participated with interest and enthusiasm. Ms. Anosia Nazir, the History Coordinator of Class 8, organized the event. The topics included were announced two weeks prior to the contest. The contest comprised of 3 rounds; Picture-based source, Rapid Fire Round and arranging events in a time line. A short quiz session was also held where the audience- the 8^th graders answered the questions and won a prize.

Shields, certificates and chocolates were presented to the First Position holders Class 8T and the Runners Ups 8C whereas; all the participants received the certificates.

Science Quiz 2018-19

Science Quiz Competition was held on Thursday, November 15, 2018. It was a section based contest where students of Class 7 participated with zeal and zest. Ms. Shahnaz, the Science coordinator of Class 7 and Ms. Mahnoor Ashraf were the organizers of the event. Students prepared from the first five chapters of their text book. The contest comprised of 3 rounds; Discussion Round, Rapid Fire Round and Individual round. Students participated with interest and high spirit and scored overall good marks. Shields, certificates and chocolates were presented to the first position holders Class 7 C and the runners ups 7N whereas; all the participants received the certificates.

Book Week Day 5" Movie review"

Day 5: Movie Time: Movie Review 

In extension to the event, students filled in a Movie Review Report on the 5^th day of the Book Week in their English Period. Students communicated their views; favours as well as critique regarding the movie. Students also shared the differences they noticed between the novel and the movie.

The benefits of reading from a young age are well known and range from improved cognitive skills to high level of performance at school. We, at The City School believe that a love of reading is a stepping stone to becoming an enthusiastic learner and a confident reader, writer and speaker.  With confidence and enthusiasm, children can enjoy a wonderful world of learning and exploration. Thus, we are positive that a week celebration must have boosted children’s love for reading.

On 16^th November 2018, the book week ended by handing over the certificates to all the students for their enthusiastic participation.

Book week Day 4" Parts of Book"

Day 4:  Parts of the Book

The task of parts of the books was assigned to English Teachers. The activity took place in the classes where English teachers explained the parts of a book followed by pupil as teachers and a quiz to reinforce the content. Students later solved the worksheets independently. Students took great interest in learning about different parts of a book.

Book Week Day 3 "Kahani Time"

Day 3 "Kahani Time"

Sharing stories help students’ development in lots of ways. It sparks their imagination and stimulates curiosity. It also helps students’ brain, social skills and communication skills develop. Thus, to accumulate this objective the 3^rd event of Book Week was ‘Kahani Time’. For classes 6 and 7, a guest story teller Advocate Mr. Anwar Ahmad was invited.  The guest is a story writer of Naunehal since 1990 and Dawn Newspaper and famous for his stories for all age groups. Arrangements were made in the amphitheater- Junior Section. A value based story was shared and students enjoyed the session.

For Class 8, the Kahani Time was conducted by the students in library.

Book Week Day 2 "DEAR"

Day 2: D.E.A.R “Drop Everything and Read”

The ability to read is a vital skill in being able to function in today's society. Reading is important because it helps to expand the mind and develops the imagination. To emphasize on the importance of reading, the second event of Book Week was D.E.A.R which stands for Drop Everything and Read. The diary note was sent for bringing any reading material a day before the activity. A card displaying D.E.A.R was placed on the white board in each class. All the students and staff were found indulged in Reading Activity in the first period. The activity communicated the strong message depicting the importance of reading in one’s life as rightly said by George R.R. Martin “A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only on
