Theatre in
education plays a vital role in developing interpersonal skills, language
competence, and intellectual maturity. The development of performance skills
also enhance confidence, time management and memory.The students of Junior B
Section, Darakhshan Campus had an opportunity to develop all these skills in
the Annual Play 2016, Escape to Wonderland on April 15, 2016. The event was
graced by Ms. Primrose Mathew, (Director International, and Regional Director,
Southern Region), Ms. Nafisa Zanzibarwala, (GM Academics), Ms. Naila Durrani (Principal),
Mr Saifi Hassan (TV producer and Director). The stage and arena were set with
vibrant characters from Alice in Wonderland by the art teachers, the SMD screen
for backdrop was on one hand environment friendly and on the other provided
plethora of colours and variety to distinguish each scene from the other. The
play was a seven scene musical drama directed by Ms. Nadia Jafarey in which Alice meets odd creatures, such as a
doorknob, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, Mad Hatter, talking flowers, a March Hare, a Dormouse, Caterpillar
and the King and Queen of Hearts with their cardsmen.The play involved a total
of 171 performers. The parents provided a full house and were mesmerized by the
performance of the students on songs cats and rabbits, shake hands, golden
afternoon, happy unbirthday, zippetydo-da , I’m late, I’m late, for a very
important date and painting the roses red all the songs were skillfully sung by
the choir of 56 students trained by Mr. Ahmed Shafi. Ms. Ujala Syed HM Junior B
Section share her appreciation and vote of thanks to all the concerns which
made this mega event a reality.The acting of the characters was definitely par
excellence. The event provided a great opportunity to audience
to witness the mundane to
the silly; the ordinary to the extraordinary escape to the wonderland.
